Football team struggles


The West Liberty football team was given the cold shoulder Friday for their Homecoming, falling to Independence 50-8. The Comets will kick off district play Friday against Camanche for Heroes Night.

The Comets struggled against their highly ranked foes, the Mustangs trotted out to an early lead taking a 14 - 0 advantage after one quarter of play. 21 more points in the second quarter saw the Comets trail 35 - 0.

The Comets did hold the Mustangs scoreless in the third quarter, thanks to the help of the continuous clock and a long offensive possession that saw the Comets march down the field for their lone touchdown of the night. Fifteen more points for the Mustangs was scored in the fourth quarter and were icing on the cake, as they cruised to a 42 point victory.
