Students wanting volunteer hours toward their Silver Cord at graduation may work a shift at the First Church United food stand at the Muscatine County Fair. Simply contact Susie Lehman at 319-339-1392 and we’ll sign you up!
First Church United has manned its food stand since 1939, first starting out in a tent south of where the Floral Hall is now. After several moves over the years, its current location is across from the main grandstand. Menu items include hamburgers, BBQ pork sandwiches, fresh cut French fries, pies, and drinks. New this year will be the “Hallelujah Plate” which includes French fries, covered with choice of hamburger or pork, and topped with cheese sauce.
Working at the FCU food stand is a fun experience. Silver Cord students can work by yourself or grab a friend to work with you (only two Silver Cord students to a shift, please), and gain some easy Silver Cord hours. We’d love to have you.
