West Liberty’s Genna Evans won a spot at the Pepsi Junior Gold Championship bowling tournament by taking second at the girls’ Pepsi Youth State Tournament over the weekend.

With the effort, Evans won a spot in the national tournament in July, which will be held in Indianapolis, by taking second at the most recent statewide tournament this past weekend at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

A junior at West Liberty, Evans competed on the Muscatine girls’ bowling team this past winter and nearly missed qualifying for the high school state tournament for the Muskies. As a sophomore, Evans was the lone state-qualifier for the Muskies to end the 2021-22 season.

On her way to Indianapolis, Evans bowled a winning 630 three-game series at the Rose Bowl in Muscatine at the district tournament to clinch a spot at the Pepsi State Tournament.

Bowling for Muscatine this weekend in IGHSAU competition, Evans recorded a team-best high game score of 237, and also had the Muskies’ best series average of over 380 with a single-game average of over 190.

She bowled a three-game series of 506 at the IGHSAU state tournament as a sophomore to place individually in the top 30 in Class 3A.
