The West Liberty football team fell 54-26 to Camanche on Friday at Memorial Stadium and finish their season at 1-7 and winless in district play.

Despite the wind and rain in West Liberty, fans filed in for the final game at Memorial Field.

Both offenses struggled to find their footing early in the contest before the Storm broke through for the first touchdown of the game, coming off a blocked punt.

The Storm tallied another score and took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Comets were able to break through for their first score of the game early in the second quarter.

Quarterback Ryker Dengler kept the ball on a bootleg and walked into the endzone untouched.

West Liberty forced a fumble on the following kickoff but were unable to capitalize on the second opportunity to draw the game even.

The Storm pushed across another score for the to take a 21-6 lead into the break.

The visitors scored early in the third period before the Comets answered with a touchdown for Alexis Michel on the sweep and a two-point conversion from Dengler to Jayce McHugh to cut the lead in half following the two point conversion. Two more scores followed as the Storm extended their lead to 41-14.

A pair of scores in the fourth quarter did little for the Comets than save pride as they fell 54-26 in the final contest of the year.

Individual statistics for this game were unavailable as of Tuesday afternoon.

West Liberty honored its 13 senior football players Friday night, including David Mahoney, Jayce McHugh, Alexis Michel, Diego Sanchez, Morgan Lehman, Ryan Noble, Panayiotis Mesa-Ochoa, Andre Puentes, Joe Akers, Evan Beal-Henderson, Kaden Broders, Diego Linares and Coven Morgan.

The Comets will regroup for next year, returning a lot of the same players in skill positions as they look to develop for next season.

However, they will have to find a way to replace this senior group's production and leadership.
