Los pasillos de la escuela secundaria de West Liberty están llenos de emoción a medida que se acerca un nuevo año académico, y con él llega una nueva cara a la lista de docentes. La señorita Cynthia Flores, una graduada de la Universidad de Iowa, está preparada para inspirar y empoderar a los estudiantes de noveno grado. Ha sido integrada a la escuela y trabajara en el departamento de inglés.
Originaria de los suburbios de Chicago, específicamente de Carpentersville, IL, la Señorita. Flores trae consigo un mosaico cultural que refleja su herencia mexicana, nutrida por su madre de Guerrero, México. Guerrero, México es un estado costero rico en herencia cultural con una mezcla de influencias indígenas y afromexicanas y con gran significado histórico. Cynthia es bilingüe y está bien versada tanto en inglés como en español. Decidió seguir un camino en la docencia en inglés porque le apasiona escribir. A Flores le encanta leer, aprender y encontrar maneras de mantener su mente activa. Su misión es crear un refugio inclusivo donde se celebre la diversidad lingüística y cultural, además de ser ese puente de apoyo para ayudar a los estudiantes a asistir a la universidad.
Su ferviente dedicación para capacitar a los estudiantes para que conserven sus identidades culturales mientras navegan por la educación en inglés resuena fuertemente en la comunidad de West Liberty. Cynthia hizo su pasantía en las escuelas de West Liberty y se enamoró de la comunidad. Ella cree que este pueblo es tan especial porque es una comunidad de clase trabajadora. "Son personas que están haciendo sacrificios, trabajando duro y que se presentan por su comunidad. Me encanta la cultura de este pueblo y las personas que habitan este lugar. Estoy orgullosa de ser parte de este distrito escolar", compartió Flores. Está emocionada de trabajar con los alumnos de primer año porque construyó relaciones con ellos a lo largo de su pasantía y los ayudará en su transición a la escuela secundaria.
La Señorita Flores está comprometida a fomentar la pasión por el aprendizaje y la expresión. Ella cree en equipar a sus estudiantes no solo con habilidades lingüísticas, sino también con la confianza y la ambición para perseguir sus sueños, tanto en la academia como en la vida. Se describe a sí misma como una "sanadora", la Señorita Flores comprende los impactos profundamente arraigados del trauma generacional y la importancia de romper esos ciclos. Su aspiración de fomentar el crecimiento, la resiliencia y la positividad se alinea a la perfección con el compromiso de West Liberty con el desarrollo integral de los estudiantes.
Más allá de sus esfuerzos académicos, la Sra. Flores encuentra consuelo en el abrazo de la naturaleza, ya sea a través del yoga, acampando o cuidando su jardín. Su entusiasmo por la vida se extiende a bailar como si nadie está viendo y escribir poesía a flor de piel. Este entusiasmo se ejemplifica aún más con su fiel compañero, un labrador negro llamado Dante, que se une a ella en sus aventuras. El libro favorito de Flores, "El alquimista" de Paolo Coelho, hace eco de su filosofía de encontrar positividad en cada situación. Cynthia compartió que busca lo mejor en las personas y permite que brille a través de ellas. Esta filosofía seguramente se entretejerá en su estilo de enseñanza, donde busca elevar a sus alumnos y guiarlos hacia sus caminos individuales de crecimiento.
A medida que el año académico comienza de nuevo, la escuela secundaria de West Liberty está emocionada de recibir a Cynthia en el distrito. West Liberty High School welcomes new English teacher
The halls of West Liberty High School are abuzz with excitement as a new academic year approaches, and with it comes a fresh face to the teaching roster. Ms. Cynthia Flores, an accomplished graduate of the University of Iowa, is set to inspire and empower ninth-grade students as the school's latest addition to the English department.
A native from the suburbs of Chicago, specifically Carpentersville, IL, Ms. Flores brings with her a cultural mosaic that reflects her Mexican heritage, nurtured by her mother from Guerrero, Mexico. Guerrero, Mexico is a coastal state rich in cultural heritage with a blend of indigenous and afro mexican influences and historical significance. Cynthia is bilingual and well-versed in both English and Spanish. She decided to pursue a path in English education because she is passionate about writing. Flores loves to read, learn, and find ways to keep her mind active. Her mission is to create an inclusive haven where linguistic and cultural diversity are celebrated as well as being that supportive bridge to help students attend college.
Her fervent dedication to empowering students to retain their cultural identities while navigating English education resonates strongly with the West Liberty community. Cynthia did her student teaching at West Liberty Middle School and she fell in love with the community. She believes this town is so special because it is a working class community."It is people who are out making sacrifices, working hard, and who show up for their community. I love the culture of this town and the people that inhabit this place. I am proud to be a part of this school district" shared Flores. She is excited to work with the freshman class because she built relationships with them throughout her student teaching and it will help them in their transition to the high school.
Ms. Flores is committed to nurturing a passion for learning and expression. She believes in equipping her students not just with language skills, but also with the confidence and ambition to chase their dreams, both in academia and in life. A self-described "healer," Ms. Flores understands the deep-seated impacts of generational trauma and the importance of breaking those cycles. Her aspiration to foster growth, resilience, and positivity aligns seamlessly with West Liberty's commitment to holistic student development.
Beyond her academic endeavors, Ms. Flores finds solace in the embrace of nature, whether through yoga, camping, or tending to her garden. Her zest for life extends to dancing uninhibitedly and penning heartfelt poetry. This zest is further exemplified by her faithful companion, a black lab named Dante, who joins her in her adventures. Ms. Flores' favorite book, "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelho, echoes her philosophy of finding positivity in every situation. Cynthia shared that she looks for the best in people and allows that to shine through them. This philosophy is sure to be woven into her teaching style, where she seeks to uplift her students and guide them toward their individual paths of growth.
