Deep Lakes unveils new campground project Oct. 21

Muscatine County Conservation Foundation and Muscatine County Conservation Board will be hosting a public unveiling of the upcoming campground project to be located at Deep Lakes Park. Join us on Monday, Oct. 21, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Environmental Learning Center, located at 3300 Cedar Street in Muscatine.

Deep Lakes Park is a 435-acre park located on the south side of Muscatine. The area was formerly a sand and gravel quarry, and was donated to Muscatine County Conservation by W.G. Block in 2012. Since then, the Conservation Board has been working to provide a good variety of visitor amenities to the public.

The area features 120-acres of deep, clear water lakes, open for exploration.

Lake Chester is the biggest lake and is equipped with a boat landing, accessible fishing dock, and public swimming beach. The lakes are stocked with a diversity of sport fish that can be caught from shore or boat. Kayaks are available for rent by contacting the Conservation Office at least three days in advance. There are parking lots and access locations located along all four sides of the park for walk-in fishing, paddling, or relaxation.

Four reservable cabins can be found by entering the main access off Pettibone Avenue. There are two two-bedroom cabins that sleep eight and two one-bedroom cabins that sleep four.  The kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge, microwave, and some small appliances. The living rooms have a television with local cable, and WIFI allows guests to connect to their favorite shows. They are temperature controlled, and offer excellent views overlooking the sparkling waters of either Valentine Chute or Lake Patricia.

A 1.25-mile hard-surfaced bicycle and walking trail bisects the park and connects to the Greater Muscatine trails system offering a 20+ mile ride.
