Don Campbell family's $6,000 donation beautifies fairgrounds new event center

The Don Campbell Family has donated $6,000 for sidewalk infrastructure at the new Event Center at the Muscatine County Fair. Shirley and the late Don Campbell have four children, Linda Albrecht, Peggy Miller, Twyla Bickford, and Cindy Campion.

The fair is a place that Don and his family have loved attending their whole lives. Don served on the Muscatine County Fair Board for several years and was fair board president for two years. He was then also awarded honorary fair board member in 2011. The Campbell Family planned the fair as their family vacation each year, as it was the event of the year for them. Don would spend all day each day of the fair at the fairgrounds, along with many days outside of the fair to help make the it a success. The love of the fair was passed down to Don and Shirley’s children, as they still attend to this day with their own families. When asked what they love most about the fair, Shirley said, “The smells of the food, sounds of music from the carnival and puppet show, to the sounds of the animals and people. The fair just comes alive those five days and we love it.”

The Campbell family feels the new event center will really enhance the atmosphere and be a big draw for people outside of just the fair. The new event center will be a new modern facility with the ability to host 500 people for gatherings, something that Muscatine County doesn’t have right now.

The Campbell’s donation will go towards sidewalks, as they know the importance of connecting the event center with the rest of the grounds and the other historic features that are currently there. “This is the second donation for sidewalks and I can’t thank the Don Campbell Family enough for their continued dedication and commitment to the Muscatine County Fair. They see the potential with the new event center and our existing buildings, and I appreciate that.” Said Kelsey Meyers, Muscatine County Fair Manager.
