The West Liberty Baseball team split their week, capturing two wins over Durant while suffering three defeats, one to Durant and two to Marion.

The week started on Monday for the Comets as they loaded up for a varsity doubleheader in Durant.

The Comets jumped on the board first in game one, plating a run.

The lead didn’t last long as Durant immediately scored a trio of runs in the bottom half of the frame and matched it in the bottom of the second.

The score held at 6-1 until the top of the sixth inning when the Comet bats came to life. West Liberty scored six in the inning and clung to their one-run lead for the next inning a half to escape with a 7-6 victory in game one.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Wildcats jumped on the board first plating a pair of runs in bottom of the first.

An immediate response from the Comets in the top of the second inning saw the game go even. The bats went cold for both teams until the bottom of the fifth when Durant added three to their total.

The Comets were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 5-2 in the second game.

On Thursday, the Comets saw Durant for the third game of the season, this time at home.

Both teams pushed across runs in the top of the first before Durant secured their lead in the third inning, pushing across a pair of runs.

The Comets scored in fourth, fifth and seventh to force extra innings with the game knotted at four.

West Liberty scored the winner in the bottom of the ninth to secure the series victory.

The Comets ended their week hosting Marion for a pair of non-conference games. They fell 12-3 in the first and 5-3 in the second as their record fell to 4-5 on the season.

The Comets will play Wilton Friday before matching up against Tipton for a pair on Monday.
