It’s showtime for the Voluntary Action Council’s (VAC) annual Christmas distribution of food and toys. With over 160 applications it’s going to be a busy time.

It begins Thursday afternoon, Dec. 7, when tables will be set up in Fellowship Hall at First Church United. Select food will be transferred from the food pantry to labeled tables in the hall.

On Friday morning, Dec. 8, donations from West Liberty schools will be weighed and sorted at the church. All schools in the district held food drives this year.

Volunteers will be needed at 1 p.m. to sort the food and put it on designated tables.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m., food will be boxed and stacked in the halls. A few more wagons are needed that day to carry the boxes as they are filled.

Aquarius Club members will be filling the toy bags Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m.

On Friday, Dec. 15, both the Lions and Rotary Club will deliver food boxes from 3-4 p.m. after a food delivery from Jeff’s Market. Drive up for boxes and toy sacks will be held from 4:30-7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 16, approximately 50 fruit sacks will be picked up by volunteers from 8-9 a.m. for delivery to senior citizens. Drive up for food and toys will be held from 9-10 a.m.

Volunteers are needed for all of these “events” so please decide if/when you can help.

This is a huge undertaking, but usually runs like a well-oiled machine thanks to Pam, her exceptional organizational skills and the dedicated volunteers willing to donate their time.

If you know people not on this list who might be willing to help, please share.
