Marci Goulette, a West Liberty Early Learning Center paraprofessional, has been honored as the Iowa State Education Association’s 2024 Education Support Professional of the Year.

This prestigious award is a testament to her unwavering dedication, professional practice, advocacy, and community engagement.

Her achievements stand as a shining example of the vital role ESPs play in public education.

While education support professional job categories may vary from school district to school district, some examples include paraprofessionals who support students in the classroom, custodial and food service workers, transportation and bus drivers, and others who play essential roles in the school community.

Goulette's role involves providing additional support to students, a task she undertakes with a positive, compassionate, and patient approach that has earned her respect among colleagues and families.

Her efforts contribute to the academic and personal growth of the students she works with. She also collaborates with teachers, other paraprofessionals, and administrators to foster a conducive learning environment for all students.

As the president of the local ESP association, she advocates for fair treatment of her colleagues.

“Education support professionals like Marci strengthen our schools and communities and play a vital role in the education team and students' lives. The ISEA is proud to celebrate Marci for her hard work and dedication to her profession,” said ISEA President Mike Beranek.

Goulette was honored on April 13 at the ISEA Delegate Assembly in West Des Moines.
