On Tuesday, Sept. 19, Jack Blake, accompanied by Durk Sterner, visited Washington, D.C., on an Honor Flight out of Moline.  Blake, now of Muscatine, taught industrial arts at WLHS 1970-2000.  He served in Vietnam 1969-70 in the 101st Airborne Division as a radio operator in combat.

The honor flight included one World War II vet, three Korean War vets, and 76 Vietnam War vets. They visited the Air and Space Museum, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, where they witnessed the changing of the guard, Iwo Jima Memorial, World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Women’s Memorial and Air Force Memorial.

After a very long day the group returned home late that night.  Jack was welcomed home by a crowd of West Liberty friends and former students with posters, cards, flag waving, handshakes and hugs!
