The Comet trio of Drake Collins, Josh Zeman and Colin Cassady will be heading back to Des Moines for the State Wrestling Tournament. This will be Collins third time going and Zeman and Cassady’s second time.

The trio will all be looking to improve on their performance from last year. Cassady claimed third place, Collins claimed fifth place and Zeman came in eighth place.

“The three of us seniors set our goals earlier this year and returning to Des Moines was one of them, stated Zeman.” The three seniors all claimed titles at Districts in Williamsburg."

Cassady got the ball rolling at 113 pounds with a major decision in the finals over his Williamsburg opponent. “Coming into today I just wanted to get out there and compete, I haven’t wrestled in a month, and it was fun to be out there again. I’m excited to be heading back but my goal was not just to make it back but to do better than last year," stated Cassady.

Zeman claimed the 152-pound title with a 6-3 decision over his Columbus Junction opponent. “This year’s goal was to win districts and improve on last year’s state placing, I have accomplished one goal and looking forward to next week, stated Zeman.”

The last finalist for the Comets was 170 pound Drake Collins. He claimed his title over Williamsburg opponent 12-5. “It was a good day especially with the three of us winning titles today. I’m looking forward to next week as this is the last go for the three of us," stated Collins.

“I’m super happy for the seniors but this is what was expected of them," said head coach Ian Alke. "We will watch some film this week and be ready to go on Wednesday. We had a couple other kids right there to go but came up short.”

Ryan Cassady finished third at 106 pounds for the Comets. He was pinned by his Tipton opponent in the semi-finals and came back to claim third place.

The Comets other place winners were Bryson Garcia at 160 pounds and Perry Lehman at 220 pounds coming in fourth place.
