Comet seniors begin prepping for life after high school

West Liberty High School hosted its second annual Senior Day at the Muscatine County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Breakfast was provided by West Liberty State Bank, and beverages by Midwest One. Lunch was served  by the Lions Club of West Liberty, and desserts were provided by the Henderson-Baker Funeral Home. An anonymous donor helped pay for the obstacle course bounce house that seniors were able to enjoy.

Students rotated through four breakout sessions that focused on completing applications for college/workforce/trade school, learning about scholarship opportunities, creating their FSA IDs (which is the first step in completing the FAFSA), and building community with their peers through games and activities.

This is the tenth year that WLHS has hosted a College Application Event. In past years, the event was held in the high school library, and was attended by about 60% of the senior class. Counselors were hoping to reach closer to 90-100% of seniors by hosting this event.

An important sponsor of Senior Day is a partnership between the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine, Aligned Impact Muscatine, and United Way of Muscatine. They provide resources and support for college going events throughout the year. WLHS wants to thank all the organizations and individuals that have helped to make this a productive and fun event for the seniors of WLHS.
