Phyllis A. Knoche, 93, of Durant, passed away Thursday, April 20, on her 93rd birthday surrounded by her loving family. A visitation was held from 5 - 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. A funeral service will was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 27, at the funeral home.

Phyllis was born on April 20, 1930. She was the daughter of Richard and Alice (Moeller) Schiele.

She graduated from Durant High School, with the Class of 1947. Phyllis later graduated from Marycrest College with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education.

She married Vincent J. Knoche, Sr. on February 19, 1949 in Davenport. They farmed in the Durant and Wilton area. Vince passed away on October 21, 2005.

Phyllis started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Muscatine County. She was an elementary school teacher for the Muscatine School District. Phyllis taught for over fifty years, before retiring in 1992.

After retiring, Phyllis was a Docent for the Herbert Hoover Library Museum in West Branch. She loved her community and was a member of many clubs.

Phyllis enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal and following financial news. She also enjoyed watching The Young and the Restless and spending time with her friends over a cup of coffee.

Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her son, Vince (Sandra) Knoche, Jr. of Eldridge; one granddaughter, Amy Sue (Mike) Rossi of Davenport; two great granddaughters, Emily and Ashley Rossi; and one sister, Avon (Don) Hopkins of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Vince.
