The West Liberty High School volleyball team continued their undefeated season after a swift victory on the road in Camanche Thursday night.

The Class 4A seventh ranked Comets of coach Ruben Galvan improved to 15-0 on the season following the three-set River Valley Conference victory.

The Comets worked through the first set with ease, capturing the opening win 25-16. In the second set, the Comets jumped out to a 4-0 advantage early in the set before Camanche stormed back. Trailing 8-4, Camanche went on a run that would see them take the lead early in the second set 9-8 over the Comets.

The Comet hitting duo of Martha Pace and Macy Daufeldt lifted West Liberty back into the lead in the middle of the second set but the Indians wouldn’t succumb, coming back to tie the match at 15 all. The Comets put it all together and faced little resistance in the remainder of the set, eventually taking the victory 25-18.

In what came to be the closing set of the night, teams traded points back and forth before the Comets were able to create separation and take a 6-3 lead. The Comets took a 16-6 lead later in the set following a five-point run.

The host Indians made an attempt at a comeback, pulling to within seven, 24-17, but the Comets closed the game in the next rally and took the win 25-17.

Sophomore setter Brooklyn Buysse had a great night, going 16 of 17 serving with three aces, recording a block and posting 32 assists, pushing her total on the year to 335. Macy Daufeldt recorded 19 kills, six digs and a block while Isabel Morrison had four blocks and two kills. Monica Morales and Rylie Goodale accounted for nine and seven digs respectively for the winners.

The Comets will battle Iowa City Regina Thursday before hosting Durant next Tuesday, Sept, 29. Both games will be at West Liberty High School.
