If you’re in downtown West Liberty Friday night's in August, chances are you’ll hear music coming from Ron-de-Voo Park.

Starting this Friday, local musicians will have a chance to play for the community for the West Liberty Arts Council Summer Music 2022.

Monica Leo, member of the West Liberty Arts Council, said the concerts are funded by local donors and will begin at 6:30 p.m.

“We always have a different band every week and we also try to have a different style of music every week and that’s exactly what’s happening this year,” she said.

Friday, Aug. 5, Flash In a Pan is playing, which is a Bluegrass band from Iowa City.

“Coincidently, the banjo player in there also plays with us on one of our shows, so we’re excited to have his band here,” Leo said.

On Aug 12, the Johnny Kilowatt Band will play, she said. They’re a jazz band from Iowa City.

Dee Dish Divas will perform Aug. 19. They’re a women’s trio from the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area who play instruments that play historical music, Leo said.

“They will be different from anything we’ve ever had at the park,” she added.

Libertad Oeste, a local Latino Band, will close out the month with their performance Aug. 26.

The community is invited to come and go as they please during the performances, sit on the bleachers in the park or bring a lawn chair to use, Leo said.

“And I always think it’s a good idea to go across the street to one of the restaurants to get some carry out and eat your supper while you’re watching or go to the movie theater and get your popcorn,” she added.
