Editor’s note: The following was received from the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday Aug. 11, at or about 9:40 a.m. MUSCOM received a complaint of people camping on state property and dispatched a Muscatine County Sheriff’s Deputy to the area.
Upon the deputy’s arrival, a lone male fled the area on foot. The subject was identified as 36-year old Derek Westen of Solon. Westen had multiple outstanding warrants.
Westen was located while trying to evade law enforcement on a ATV. Westen was apprehended after a pursuit.
The Iowa State Patrol, Muscatine Police Dept., Johnson County S.O. and Coralville Fire Dept. assisted Muscatine County.
