Steil appointed president of Community Bank & Trust

Chairman David E. Carpenter announced the appointment of Joseph A. Steil as President of Community Bank & Trust Company, headquartered in Muscatine. Mr. Steil, a native of Iowa, brings 40 years of experience in community banking to the organization, having worked in similar institutions in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Steil previously served as CEO and President of Keokuk Savings Bank and Trust Co., and CEO of Lee County Economic Development Group.

Joe graduated with a BA in Business Administration and Accounting from Briar College in Sioux City. He received a diploma from the Graduate School of Banking, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and graduated from multiple national and state banking curriculums. He has held numerous state and community leadership roles and professionally served on the Iowa Banker’s Association – Executive Board of Directors and represented IA Bankers serving on the American Bankers Association – Community Bankers Council in Washington, D.C.

Joe and his wife Patty look forward to becoming active members in the Muscatine community.

Joe will replace Tom R. Spread in his capacity as president. Tom has announced his retirement effective March of 2021. In the near term, Spread will retain his role as CEO and a member of the board of directors.

Community Bank & Trust Company has total assets of $250 million; it is a locally owned financial institution based in Muscatine, with offices in Columbus Junction, Wapello and Wilton.
