Star Tree gifting program gets underway for 200 children

West Liberty group leads annual charity

Aquarius Club of West Liberty, in conjunction with the Voluntary Action Council, is once again organizing the Star Tree project to provide deserving children of the community with Christmas gifts.

Anyone from the area who would like to purchase a new gift to make Christmas special for a boy or girl may select a star from a tree at either West Liberty State Bank or MidWestOne Bank in West Liberty.

Trees will be located in the banks’ entrances. The star is then attached to a wrapped or bagged new gift (bagged is best), which can be left under the tree at either bank.

The trees and an estimated 200 stars will be available by Sunday Nov. 21, during the Holiday Open Houses. Gifts need to be returned by Friday Dec. 10, so they can be sorted and assigned to children in plenty of time for Christmas.

“Make the season bright for a child and yourself by participating in one of the many Christmas projects in the community,” stated Virginia Miehe, one of the organizers of the program for the Aquarius Club.

The program has been a staple of the holiday season for many years in the community and benefits youngsters and families from throughout the West Liberty Community School District.
