‘Safety of candidates a top priority’

The League of Women Voters of Muscatine County (LWVMC) regrets that we are plagued by COVID-19. Safety of the candidates, Media Tree, library staff and our members is a top priority. Because of COVID-19 and Musser Public Library’s direction, we had to limit the filming area to candidates and production staff. Therefore, there was not the intention of excluding the media but rather the safety of all.

The readers should know that the League’s initial letter informed the Advocate News of a virtual forum and a post-forum interview session for the press. A monitor was available outside the studio.

All of our forums are virtual due to the pandemic. The Muscatine County Attorney forum has been scheduled for Aug. 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., and it will be the last in the series of forums for this year. Voters can view this forum on Facebook Live and Channel 5.

The public is invited to view previous forums of Muscatine County Supervisor, Muscatine County Auditor and Muscatine County Sheriff found on our Facebook page.

League of Women Voters of Muscatine County (LWVMC) has been in Muscatine for many years and is a highly respected organization with well-received candidate forums each year. COVID-19 upset our routine and required something different. Was it perfect? No, but it was our best effort at a new format.

The League of Women Voters of Muscatine County looks forward to forums in the future in a post-COVID-19 world. Come again!
