Voters will get an opportunity to select candidates for contested positions of Muscatine County District Board of Supervisors, United States Senate and Iowa State Senators when they go to the polls for a primary election to be held Tuesday, June 7.

With polls opening from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m., voters in the area will vote at the West Liberty Community Center for residents living in both West Liberty Townships 1 and II as well as Wapsinonoc Township.

Voters from the City of Nichols and Pike Township will go to the polls at Nichols City Hall while City of Atalissa voters and Goshen Township residents can cast their ballot at the Atalissa City Hall.

There are few races in the election, but local interest is drawn to seats on the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors, where in District one, Republicans Danny Chick Jr. and incumbent Santos Saucedo are running for election while Kurt Kirchner is challenging Zeke Walker for the Republican seat in District 2.

In a battle for United States Senator from Iowa, long-time incumbent Chuck Grassley is being challenged for his Republican seat by Jim Carlin and the Democrats have three candidates of which to select including Abby Finkenauer, Michael Franken and Glen Hurst.

For the Iowa State District office of state senator, Democrats Deb VanderGaast and Nikole Tutton are battling it out while the Republican will select either Kerry Gruenhagen or Alan Weets. That district includes Moscow, Wapsinonoc and both West Liberty townships.
