Obit: Peggy Lynn Akers

Peggy Lynn Akers, 69, of Nichols, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

No public services are planned. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is caring for Peg’s family.

Peg was born Oct. 27, 1950 in Muscatine, the daughter of Richard “Bud” and Pat (VanZyle) Fridley.

She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1969 and attended Muscatine Community College.

On May 17, 1969, she was united in marriage to David L. Akers in Muscatine. While her children were small she was a stay home mother and later joined Dave in their business Akers Construction.

Peg enjoyed bird watching, working jig saw puzzles, sewing, collecting snowmen and was the family photographer. Most important to her was her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Dave, who resides in Nichols, as well as two children and their families including a son, Brian (Laura) Akers of Lone Tree and their children Kyler and twins Jordan and Nicole, as well as a daughter, Bonnie (Eric) Van Ellen of Pleasantville and their children, Brooke and Allison.

Also surviving is her mother, Pat Fridley; a brother, Mike (Chris) Fridley; and a sister, Lorrie (Don) Lampe, all of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard, and a brother, Dan.
