Outdoor West Liberty puppet show Aug. 23

Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre continues its series of summer shows available to viewers all over the world. The next show, “Magical Fish and Mermaids” will be live streamed Sunday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. Central Time. It will be presented outdoors in Ron-de-Voo Park in downtown West Liberty with limited on-site seating. The show will be followed with a demonstration and an opportunity for live audience questions. A brand new show, Sunday’s event will be its premiere performance.

“Magical Fish and Mermaids” includes two stories and a song. “The Fisherman and his Wife” is the ancient Grimm’s Fairy Tale of the magical fish who grants wishes until the beneficiaries become too greedy and too hungry for power. “The Mermaid of the Magdalenes,” a Canadian folk tale, is much newer and features an ocean full of fish, a canning factory, and a little girl named Madeleine who wishes she could live in the ocean. Will her wish be granted? The two stories are joined with a song, The “Keeper of the Eddystone Light,” illustrated with a cranky, an old fashioned illustrated scroll that resembles an old time movie. Both stories are performed by puppeteer Monica Leo with delightful Bohemian style rod marionettes.

If wanting to attend live in-person, call 319-627-2487 or 319-855-0602 for details. Masks and social distancing are required. Check this site and Eulenspiegel’s Facebook page for a link to watch the live stream.
