One dies, and four-year-old injured at Hwy 70 accident

A four-year-old is among the injured after an accident occurred around 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, on Highway 70. The collision left one dead and two injured.

A 2015 Ford Explorer was northbound on IA-70, south of Nichols, when it crossed over the centerline of the road. The vehicle collided with a southbound 2011 Chevy Malibu, according to a police report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu, a West Liberty man, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries during the accident.

Meanwhile, the four-year-old passenger of the Malibu was properly restrained, but was still injured. The child, along with the driver of the Ford Explorer, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals by a West Liberty ambulance.

The accident is still under investigation by the Iowa State patrol. Victims’ names have been held pending investigation.
