Marcia Gayle Sorensen, 73, formerly of West Branch and West Liberty, died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2020, at her home in Audubon, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.

Marcia was born in Downey, Iowa, on May 21, 1943 to Arlene (Paulson) and Kenneth Slach. She grew up on the family farm and attended West Branch High School.

Shortly after graduating, she married Spencer Sorensen. They spent many years traveling, including living in Hawaii, California and Texas.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Spence, her two daughters including Stephanie (Sid) Tison and Angela (John) Platt. In addition to her children, Marcia had three grandchildren she adored: Amelia, Samantha and Henry Platt. Marcia was happy to welcome in two grandson in-laws and two great grandson in-laws to her life.

She leaves behind her sisters: Carol Belding, Jane Slach Hill, Anita Slach, Linda Kessler, and Nancy Slach, brother Ray Slach, step mother Betty Slach and many nieces and nephews.

Marcia made everyone she met feel like a part of her family, so she also leaves behind many adopted daughters and sons, including Jamie Paparich of Northport, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenny and Arlene, and in-laws, Herb and Dorothy Sorensen.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening, Aug. 11, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch and private family graveside services will be held in the West Branch Cemetery.

A celebration of life party will be held later this fall, as it was Marcia’s favorite season.
