Harold “Buzz” W. Dettwiler Jr., 64, of West Liberty, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 at Winslow House Care Center, Marion, Iowa.
The son of Harold W. and Mary Frances (Melton) Dettwiler, he was born Dec. 11, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1975. On Dec. 18, 1982. he married JoEtta Gipple. Buzz was in the construction field most of his life. While in Texas, he constructed McDonalds in Houston and would travel to Mexico on mission trips to build churches and homes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed Sunday football games, western movies and spending time with his family.
Buzz is survived by a son, Cody Dettwiler of Kingman, AZ; a daughter Hannah Dettwiler of Waterloo, his mother, Mary Frances Dettwiler of Iowa City, a brother, John (Renee) Dettwiler of Conroe, Texas and two sisters, Susan Meyer of Holden, MO and Kathy (Brian) Courtois of North Liberty, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold W. Dettwiler Sr., his wife JoEtta “Jody” Dettwiler and his daughter Jacklyn Dettwiler.
Private family visitation and funeral was held Monday morning, Nov. 23, with services following at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty.
The funeral was live streamed on the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home Facebook page on Monday. Interment will follow at the Columbus City Cemetery.
