New ELC director to welcome early learners

When Dr. Lindsay Meeker saw the opportunity to take a director position at the West Liberty Early Learning Center, she didn’t hesitate to go after the career change.

“It matched my career and demographic goals,” said Meeker, who has two Master’s degrees from Western Illinois University in bilingual education and educational leadership along with a bachelor’s degree in special education. She earned her doctorate from North Central University in early childhood.

Dr. Meeker worked her way through teaching and director positions in large school districts like Wheaton and Moline, both in Illinois.

The new administrator said although the experience of being involved in a large school district taught her a lot, neither were a small school district like the one where she was raised – in rural Mercer County (Aledo), south of the Illinois Quad-Cities.

Dr. Meeker says she loves the diversity of the West Liberty community, having worked in the past in dual language learning environments, and said being part of early childhood learning was a major key in attracting her to West Liberty, along with the success of students graduating from West Liberty High School.
