After months of planning and preparation, the Muscatine County Freedom Rock will be unveiled during a dedication event Sunday, Sept. 6, starting at noon. The program includes a list of speakers, including emcee Tony Loconsole, Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann and State Rep. Bobby Kaufmann, both of Wilton, Rear Admiral Will Pennington of the U.S. Navy, also of Wilton. A special engine courtesy of the Iowa Interstate Railroad will be on display on the tracks in the backdrop of the Freedom Rock, which is located near the historic Wilton Depot in downtown Wilton. American Legion units from Wilton, Durant, West Liberty and Muscatine have been invited, along with Legion Auxiliary units from Wilton, West Liberty and Muscatine. A National Warbird fly over led by Phillip J. Wolford's Stearman N2S Trainer, flown by President George H.W. Bush in 1942, is planned. All veterans in attendance will be invited for a photo at the end of the program. Portions of Maurer and Railroad streets will be closed. Masks are not required but visitors are encouraged to social distance. There will be food vendors, and the River City 6 Band will play both before and after the event. Commemorative bricks and concrete work have been done at the site, which will feature the rock, the American Legion Auxiliary star, and a vintage cannon. Photos by Derek Sawvell
