The 2021 Muscatine County Fair is already seeking a queen.

Applications for the Muscatine County Fair Queen competition are now available for young ladies residing in the county under the age of 18, and are due by Friday, May 14.

The fair queen will be crowned on Wednesday, July 21, the opening day of the Muscatine County Fair, and candidates for the queen will be honored in the fair parade to be held in West Liberty on Sunday, July 18, beginning at 1 p.m., while also welcomed to participate in the West Liberty Chamber of Commerce “Picnic in the Park” that afternoon in Kimberly Park.

The queen, along with members of her court, including the Princess selection, will also participate in many events during the fair, from handing out trophies and plaques to 4-H, open and FFA competitors to making special appearances at entertainment venues.

Queen candidates do need a sponsor, which can be an organization, church, business or individual, and the queen will advance to compete in the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest to be held as part of the Iowa State Fair in August.

Merideth Schanz is chairing the event, and can be contacted with any questions at 563-506-8626, or by email at meridethschanz@gmai.com. Other members of the committee include Katie Chalupa, Morgan Nichols, Kris Nichols and Alli Youngbauer.

No queen was crowned in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the fair to a virtual event, but this year’s fair plans to be more traditional. The 2019 fair queen was Hope Reichert of Muscatine.
