Local families benefit from holiday distribution

Posted

A total of 109 families from the West Liberty School District received 50 pounds of food and personal items as the Voluntary Action Committee held their annual Christmas distribution Friday and Saturday.

While 190 children received toys, 42 senior citizens were given fruit sacks. Winter wear was also provided to the school nurses to be distributed among the students.

Officials said the event wouldn’t be possible without the help of the West Liberty Area Ministerial Association for organizing the church drives for winter wear and soups, individuals and groups that donated food, toiletries and money to purchase supplies and toys, Star Tree gift donors, Rotary Club of West Liberty coat and toilet paper projects, West Liberty Aquarius Club for help with toys, West Liberty Lions Club drivers, First Church United for the use of their facility, ladies that phoned recipients to schedule appointments, those who helped with deliveries, and West iberty Food Pantry workers who packed and distributed boxes.

Special praise goes to Pam Schnittjer who was instrumental in organizing the new drive up and delivery format used because of COVID-19 restrictions.
