John David Goldesberry, 71, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
John was born on April 28, 1953, in Iowa City, the son of Asa and Marie (Etter) Goldesberry. He graduated from Highland High School in 1971 and proudly served his country in the United States Army.
On Oct. 19, 1981, John married Denise Henderson. Though they later divorced, they remained close friends, with Denise becoming his caretaker in later years.
John worked at Burge Hall at the University of Iowa and at Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling, and he was a dedicated member of the American Legion, serving in many offices. John was also the first commander of the West Liberty Sons of the American Legion.
John is survived by his children: Emily (Nick) Distler of Cedar Rapids, and Brian Goldesberry of North Liberty, along with his companion Dee. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Keegan, Allie Jo, and Maverick Goldesberry, and Ryker Distler. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Barbara Caffery and Norma Watkinson.
Private family services will be held. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is caring for John and his family.
