Girls finish seventh at Anamosa track meet

The West Liberty High School girls track and field team competed this week in Anamosa capturing seventh place overall before losing a dual to North Cedar in their final home meet of the season.

In Anamosa on April 27, the Comets started strong in their field events with Macy Daufeldt capturing first place in the long jump while Rilee Han won second in the high Jump, and Grace Evans thre the discus to a fifth place finish.

Daufeldt continued her winning ways by capturing first place in the 100 meter dash and finishing second in the 200 meters.

Sami Goodale ran to a fourth place finish in the 400 meters.

The Comets collected a combined 54 points while Mount Vernon ran away with the meet, totaling 145 points.

On Friday, the Comet girls of coach Michael Hart returned home to run their final meet of the season on their home track.

The Comets again showed their prowess in the field events, Rilee Han capturing first place in the high jump while the long jump was won by Macy Daufeldt.

The Comets also had two top five placements in the discus, with Grace Evans and Mylie Henderson take home fourth and fifth place ribbons. Daufeldt won the 100-meter dash, followed by teammate Alissa Sanchez in third. Daufeldt went on to capture first in the 200 meters as well.

Sammi Goodale secured second place in the 400-meter run.

Capturing a total of 62 points as a team, the Comets were bested by North Cedar,who tallied 104 points on the night.

The Comets will head to the River Valley Conference meet in Anamosa Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
