George H. Meyers, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 11, at Mercy Rehab Hospital in Coralville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Cedar Valley United Methodist Church, located at 1791 155th Street in West Liberty. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at the church. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is caring for George’s family.

George was born Jan. 14, 1940, at home near West Liberty during a snowstorm.

He was the son of Clifton and Evelyn Askam Meyers.

He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1958.

On Nov. 12, 1961, he was united in marriage to Janet Potter in Buffalo Prairie, Illinois. They shared 61 years of marriage and memories together.

He was a farmer south of West Liberty and loved his John Deere machinery. He enjoyed his hobby of fishing, and going up to “Red Lake” in Minnesota with is son Henry and others.

He was a 50 plus year member of the Cedar Valley United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau Member and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was so proud of his family and enjoyed going to Minnesota sharing in their activities.

His wife Janet, of West Liberty; survives him son: Henry (Carrie) Meyers of Olivia, Minnesota, and daughter Heidi (T.J.) Bower of Ft. Myers, Florida; ten grandchildren: Kyler (Laura), Eric (KateLynn), Joshua, Thomas (Reiley), Emma and her fiancé Brendan, Catherine, Abigail, Andrew, Sophia and Addison, three great grandchildren with another on the way. His sister in law Peggy Meyers and several nieces and nephews also survive him.

His parents and a brother, Virgil Meyers, preceded him in death.
