The City of West Liberty and West Liberty State Bank are combining efforts to create a complimentary “Family Movie Night” for local residents on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 12, featuring the classic film "Jurassic Park," city park director Nick Heath reported.

The drive-in event will be held at the Dutton Park Sports Complex beginning at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m.

Heath said the park department is working with New Strand Theatre, the local movie house, on providing concessions.

He said it's the park department's first attempt at a drive-in movie, noting a company has been hired to provide a trailer/stage for the screen. The company will also provide an FM radio transmitter so those attending can listen to the movie in the comfort of their vehicle.

"We figured it is something that people could get out of the house and still social distance while in the car," Heath said of the event.

In the past, the park district had used Ron-De-Voo Park in downtown West Liberty for movie showings during the summer months.
