Final Friday music show to feature local artists

The final free performance of the August music series in Ron de Voo Park in downtown West Liberty will feature a lot of local talent. The event is the final of four August shows put together by the West Liberty Area Arts Council

The 6:30 p.m. show will begin with a performance of the West Liberty High School Mariachi Band, a group started several years ago by director Ashley Smith. Although young in the season, the Latin music band hopes to put together couple of songs in their 2023-24 debut.

They will be followed by a performance by the Trio de Coleres, a band which has performed previously for the council, which also features a local musician, talented guitarist Eugenio Solis of West Liberty. Solis will play Latin music with Karen Stein, the leader of the band from Grinnell and Ed East.

Monica Leo, one of the organizers of the series, said attendance hasn’t been good and hopes to see a good crowd Friday evening. She said concessions are available next door at the New Strand Theatre or from any of the downtown restaurants.

The event is sponsored by several organizations, businesses and individuals in the community.
