A fatal accident occurred in Muscatine County Feb. 26, at the intersection of Highway 61 and Fruitland Road.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 1997 Honda Accord driven by Michael Moorehead, 37, of Wapello was traveling westbound on Fruitland Road when a 2016 Freightliner tractor driven by Mikhail Driiya, 40, of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, struck the car. According to the report, Driiya was traveling northbound on Highway 61, and Moorehead did not stop at the intersection, and was struck by Driiya’s vehicle.
Moorehead died as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Also assisting was the Iowa Department of Transportation, Fruitland Fire Department, Muscatine Fire Department, Muscatine Ambulance, and the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office.
