Fair winners of special events released by officials

Event winners for the Muscatine County Fair were released by fair officials, crowning champions for the demi derby, trailer races, kiddie tractor pull, sweet corn eating contest, cornhole tournament and the bucket brigade as well as the Bill Riley Talent Show and Meat/Freexer winners.

At the July 21 kiddie tractor pull put on by the West Liberty Lions Club, Robbie Daufeldt was the champion in the category up to 40 pounds while Lucy Howard took second and Leik Wronski was third.

In the 41-50 pound weight category, Auggie Wagaman was the champion while Walker Burnett took second and Sher Morrison finished third. At 51-80 pounds, Maquire Wulf claimed the title while Ella Morrison was second and Creighton Nebergall was third.

At 61-70 pounds, Cannon Garrett claimed the title while Ruby Wertzbaugher was second and Tytan Nixt claimed third. In the 71-80 pound category, Lincoln Daufeldt was the champion while Ava Burnett finiwhed second and Amahitti Noll was third.

Brianna Staley won the special “mom’s pull” while Emily Cahill was second and Bridget Cisneros claimed third.

In the Muscatine County Fair Queen Contest held that same evening, Haylee Lehman of West Liberty won the title while Anna Marine of Wilton was the first runner-up and Morgan Hodge of West Liberty claimed the Miss Congeniality title among the four contestants. McKenna Riess of Muscatine was the only other contestant. The new queen was crowned by outgoing queen Hope Reinhart of Muscatine, now an Iowa State University student, who served the county for two straight years due to the pandemic.

Lehman will represent Muscatine County in the state fair queen pageant.

At the demolition derby on Sunday, Trista Kelly was the first place winner while Brett Keine was second followed by Brendan Serum, Kyle Sexton and Stacy McMichael. Dwight Holliday took sixth place while also earning the “hard charger” honor as Kevin Roder was seventh place followed by Garrett Maxwell and Evan Smock.

In the popular trailer races on Sunday, July 25, John Rife claimed the championship while Alex Pace was second. Curtis Stagg won the “Hard Charger” award while the “People’s Choice” honor went to John Rife.

In the sweet corn eating contest on Saturday, July 24, Sam Miller won the adult competition while Keaton Gates claimed the youth title.

Team Blackjack won the Saturday corn hole tournament at the fair while Blood, Sweat and Beer was second and the team of Al & Raul claimed third.

In bucket brigade competition in the horticulture area, Lynn Pruitt won the Master Gardener’s competition while Brandy Olson won as a first-time master gardener.

Sara Niebur won the adult competition as well as the overall battle in the bucket brigade while Amelia Dloughy claimed the youth competition and Riley Weber won the older youth title.

In the Bill Riley Talent Show on Sunday afternoon, McKenzie Lofgren won the senior title while Marley Beenken claimed the Sprouts crown.

Representing Muscatine County Fair in state competition will be Lynsee Smith in the senior category while Peyton Yocum will be performing as a sprout.

Meat/freezer benefit drawing winners at the fair included Mindy Collins, Carolyn Albright, Dick Brand and Dan Christofferson.
