Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre invites all to a Saturday, Nov. 18 presentation about its New Puppeteers Festival coming Saturday, May 4, at the West Liberty Community Center at 1204 N Calhoun Street in West Liberty.

The festival allows individuals, ages eight through adult, all new to the art of puppetry, to present short original puppet plays. Groups will write their own plays and create their puppets and scenery. Eulenspiegel puppeteers will provide free consultations and feedback. In exchange, each group will sign a letter of commitment, guaranteeing their participation throughout the process. The festival is supported in part by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, but as always Eulenspiegel welcomes donations to help defray expenses.

On Saturday, Nov. 18, Eulenspiegel will present a free orientation session for potential participants. Feel free to attend for information, whether or not you have committed to the festival. Eulenspiegel puppeteers will demonstrate different types of puppets and staging, including hand puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, tabletop shows, crankies, and more. They will discuss the process of writing for puppets and will answer questions and address individual problems. The session will be shared on Facebook Live for people unable to attend in person.
