Dennis Poock, 72, dies in Minneapolis

West Liberty graduate Dennis Poock, 72, of Gaylord, Minnesota, died Monday, Feb. 1, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord. Family and friends gathered Friday, Fe. 5 at the funeral home, with a prayer service held following the visitation.

Military honors were conducted for Poock by the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post #433 in Gaylord, where Dennis was a member.

Poock was born Dec. 13, 1948, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Lorenz and Bernice (Kuhlmann) Poock. He was a 1968 graduate of West Liberty High School. In August, 1968, Dennis entered the U.S. Army Reserve in Davenport and was discharged in June, 1974.

On Sept. 26, 1970, he was united in marriage to Carol Fuhrmeister at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in West Branch. After their marriage, the couple resided in West Liberty before moving to Gaylord in 1974. They were married 50 years and had two children, Terry (Karen) Poock of Gaylord and Ann (Larry) Sickmann of Rosemont, MN. He had four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six great step-grandchildren.

Also surviving are seven siblings including Lyle (Val) Poock of Fairbank, MN; Kenneth Poock of CA; Dannie (Jane) Poock of Frytown, Iowa; Betty (Steve) Elder of West Liberty; Dale Poock of West Liberty; Jim (Mary Sue) Poock of Parnell, Iowa and Julie (William) Kinner of Wellman, Iowa.

He was preceeded in death by his parents.
