Superintendent Shaun Kruger gave a facilities update to the Board of Education during the meeting Monday, June 5.

Things are moving along at the site of the new Early Learning Center.

“Mason work is almost complete,” Kruger said. “If you’ve been by there, they just have one corner they have to do. They have to wash some brick and do a few touchups and fill in some space.”

HVAC units are continuing to be installed in the classrooms at the elementary school, he added. Some ductwork is being finished with that project.

Ceiling tiles are being put in and ceramic tiling is being installed in the bathrooms while painting is being finished up.

“Optimistically, it continues to be on schedule,” Kruger said.

At the athletic complex, that is progressing well.

“If you’ve been by there, they’re putting in underground (drainage) tile that will run underneath the fields and once they get that in, they’ll put in crushed rock and sand,” Kruger said.

The cement footings for the concession stand have been poured and then the remainder of the cement work will begin such as the bleacher footings, sidewalks and cement pads for the press box and dugouts, he added. This will take place over the next month and a half.

There is a delay with getting an electrical box. The construction company is looking for components of the electrical box for a temporary electrical box to be installed until this one comes in, Kruger said.

“By doing that, the fields will be ready to go the second week of September somthat hopefully won’t hold up the use of those fields,” he added.

Kruger also told the board of education several staff members would be attending professional development sessions during summer break.

“There is a group attending the professional learning communities conference in Minneapolis,” he said. “That’s three days at the end of June.”

Instructional coaches in the district will be attending various training classes and the administrative team will be attending a conference in August, Kruger said.

Summer school will also be taking place throughout the summer in each building, he added.

Other items covered at the board of education meeting included:

• Activities Director Adam Loria discussing the success of the activities in the past year;

• held the first reading of board policies 600 – 602.12;
