Ron De Voo Park in downtown West Liberty will offer a chance for residents to enjoy free concerts next month.

“Concerts in the Park” will happen every Friday in August from 6:30 to 9 p.m. starting with Deep Dish Divas on Aug. 4, West Liberty Arts Council member Monica Leo said. Deep Dish Divas concert was rained out last year so they played indoors at Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre.

“We had an audience but not near as big as we had outdoors,” Leo said. “People loved them. We got several requests to have them back so more people can hear them.”

Savage Hearts will perform Aug. 11.

“That’s with Annie Savage, who’s a wonderful fiddler,” Leo said. “Along with Warren Hanlon and Dave Hansen.”

On Aug. 11, Mark Jansen and The Locals will perform, she added. On Aug. 24, Trio de Colores will perform.

This year, the Muscatine County Arts Council is sponsoring the concert the concert Aug. 11, she added.

“We lost the funding from our major supporter last year so it was really nice to have the Muscatine Arts Council (offer support),” Leo said.

Other sponsors for this year’s concerts include: Bill and Jan Koellner, West Liberty State Bank, West Liberty Foods, Liberty Communications, Gentle Family Dentists, Kessler Electric, MidWest One Back and Keele Law Offices.

Donations will be accepted at every concert as well, Leo said.

We would really appreciate the donations,” she added.

The West Liberty Arts Council encourages those attending the concerts to buy popcorn from the New Strand Theatre or encourage attendees to buy dinner from a local restaurant to bring to the concert, Leo said.
