If one Golden Hawk Invitational in track wasn’t enough, how about another in golf?

On Friday, the day after the track and field meet, West Liberty’s girls’ golf team took to Kalona Golf Course for a seven-team tournament. There, they placed sixth with a team score of 428.

Williamsburg won the event with a 376 team score, just beating out the home team which had a 379 score.

Completing the meet was Wilton (404 — third place), Keokuk (417 — fourth place), West Branch (419 — fifth place) and Durant (454 — seventh place)

Junior Addison Beaver and freshman Kamryn Gilmore tied for the top Comet score with a 98 in this 18-hole event. They each tied for 11st place overall out of 42 golfers.

Also tying in score were juniors Grace Ortiz and Kaylee Pelzer. They each scored a 116 and tied for 29th place.

Rounding out the lineup was fellow junior Maggie Mahoney who took a solo 35th with a score of 119.

West Branch’s Claire Jarrett won the tournament with an 85. Williamsburg’s Jaisel Bott took second with an 87. Those were the only two golfers to shoot 90 or lower that afternoon.

Tigers defend home course

On Monday, April 15, the Comet boys’ golf team traveled to Tipton Golf and Country club for a dual with the Tigers.

Tipton emerged victorious by taking the dual 163 to 188 in the nine-hole meet.

Tigers took the top three spots on the leaderboard, but senior Perry Lehman interrupted their run by tying for fourth with a 43-stroke score.

Sophomore John Daufeldt took 10th place in 46 shots. Freshman Ryan Laughlin (49) placed third on the team while senior Morgan Lehman and sophomore Cody Seller tied for fourth with identical 50s.

Junior Caden Laughlin rounded out the meet with a 59.
