West Liberty Football suffered a lopsided loss Friday at the hands on Monticello. The Comets fell 48-3, scoring their lone points in the first quarter.

The Panthers dominated the Contest from the jump, tallying 14 points on the Comets in the opening quarter as the Comets mustered just a field goal in the opener.

An additional 14 points in the second quarter saw the Comets trail 28-3 going into the break as Monticello’s Preston Ries tallied five total touchdowns against the Comet defense in the game.

Tides remained fierce for the Comets in the second half, as a third straight quarter allowing 14 points passed with the Comets unable to muster another score.

The fourth quarter passed rather uneventfully as the Comets allowed six points and loaded the bus back to West Liberty with a 48-3 loss.

This is the second consecutive game the Comets have allowed 48 points, and three points is the fewest they have scored since week two.

Sitting at 1-6 on the season, the Comets will conclude their season on Friday against Camanche at home for senior night.

The Storm enter the contest 3-4 on the season as the Comets look to correct course in their final matchup and look ahead to next year.

Full statistics for this game were unavailable as of 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
