Comet girls win two first in field events at Wapello

The West Liberty High School Girls Varsity Track team continued their season Tuesday night as they headed to Wapello to compete in the multi-team Wapello Co-Ed Relays meet.

Coming off good opening day performances the week prior at Regina, the Comets battled a number of area schools in their second outing of the young season for coach Michael Hart.

The Comets dominated in several field events, capturing two first place finishes including junior Macy Daufeldt taking the long jump and freshman Rilee Han winning the high jump.

In just her first competitive outing of the season, Daufeldt captured victory with a jump on 16 feet, nine and three-quarter inches for the Comets. She looks to return to the state track meet to conclude the season.

Han, who didn’t compete in the high jump for the Comets the week prior, captured gold with a jump of 4 feet 10 inches.

Mylie Henderson also threw a personal best in the discus to round out the Comets field events.

The Comets captured two medalist finishes in their running events, led by Lila Guerra, capturing second place in the 3,000 meter run.

The Comets also earned bronze with their sprint medley team consisting of Macy Daufeldt, Sydney Rivera, Riley Hann and Sammi Goodale.

The team will compete again on Friday in Tiffin in an event hosted by Clear Creek Amana featuring 15 different schools. Events will start at 4:30.

Louisa Muscatine won the team title for the girls competition while finshed second followed by Wapello, Wilton, West Liberty and Columbus.

The team also goes to a meet in Wilton on Monday, april 12 before traveling to Tipton for another competition. Both meets begin at 4:30 p.m.

Boys results

The West Liberty High School Boys varsity track and field team of coach Gus Garcia also competed at Wapello, finishing third among the five schools in the meet, which was won by the hosts.

Columbus, Louisa Muscatine, Wilton, Durant and Parnel/Holbrook also competed.

No results of individual performances for the Comet boys were provided unfortunately.

The boys track team battled at Durant on Tuesday and go to Tipton for a multi-team meet on Thursday, April 8, beginning at 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, the Comets travel back to Wapello for another multi-team meet beginning at 4:30 p.m.
