Comet boys finish fifth in own Ron Maxson Relays

The West Liberty High School boys track team competed twice this past week, battling on Tuesday, April 20, in Wellman and Thursday April 22, in their home Ron Maxson Relays where they finished fifth against the field, scoring 37 points.

Jahsiah Galvan and Sam Gingerich competed that same day at the Drake Relays, capturing 24th and 26th respectively for coach Gus Garcia in the 100 meter dash and 110 meter high hurdles.

On Thursday, the home meet was headlined by Sam Gingerich’s performance in the 110-meter high hurdles, coming off running at the Drake relays earlier that day.

Gingerich found his way to the top of the podium with a time of 15.79. West Liberty’s Ashton Burroughs captured third place in the 400 meter dash and took fifth in the 1600-meter run.

Quintyn Roacha captured fourth in the discus for the Comets, tossing the saucer 101 feet 8 inches and finishing in 10th place.

The Comet 4 by 100-meter relay team of Gingerich, Drake Collins, Caleb Wulf and Galvan placed second overall.
