City Inspector Terry Goerdt honored

Terry Goerdt, of Tipton, was honored and presented the prestigious award of "Building Official of the Year" for the State of Iowa at the annual meeting of the Iowa Association of Building Officials in West Des Moines on Thursday, Jan. 11.

This award is presented to a building official in recognition of his/her outstanding services and contribution to the Iowa Association of Building Officials, and constant commitment to fire and life safety principles in requiring code-compliant structures within the communities they serve. 

Terry is a certified combination building inspector for both residential and commercial properties as well as a certified plans examiner. 

Terry has worked as a building inspector/plans examiner for the City of Iowa City since 1990. In addition to the City of Iowa City, Terry serves as the city inspector/building official and/or Zoning Administrator for the cities of West Branch, West Liberty, Durant, Tipton, University Heights, Hills, Clarence, and Muscatine County, on a part-time or as-needed basis.

In addition to his expertise in building code compliance, Terry has extensive training and expertise in property maintenance, nuisance, and zoning code compliance. Terry often serves as an expert by providing second opinions or consulting services to architects, engineers, contractors, or other municipal building officials. 

Terry (originally from Farley, Iowa) and his wife Tammi live in Tipton. They have six adult children and six grandchildren.
