City of West Liberty extends contract for new Interim City Manager

The West Liberty City Council unanimously approved extending the contract for interim city manager Elizabeth Hansen for another six months Tuesday evening, Aug. 18, at their regular meeting held live and virtually at the West Liberty Public Library.

With little discussion and approving of the work accomplished to date since mid-May, the council extended the contract to Midwest Municipal Consulting LLC in a 4-0 vote, councilman Robby Rock absent from the meeting.

The council has seen improved communication between departments, a lot more meetings, early budget planning, overall planning, inventory assessments and much more in Hansen’s first few months as part of the team. She replaced Lee Geertz, the city clerk, as interim manager earlier this year after Geertz took over for Lawrence McNaul, who took a job as a county manager in central Florida late last year.

The contract with the city is at a rate of $80 per hour and Hansen is contracted to work approximately 20 hours per week, some week more, some weeks less
