CDC pauses Johnson & Johnson vaccine

Editor’s note: The following includes information obtained from Muscatine County Public Health.

As of April 13, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending a pause in the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

There have been some reported rare blood clots and platelet changes in six people who received this vaccine (out of more than 6 million doses given in the U.S.).

This pause in Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be in effect until the CDC and other organizations review the data and make a recommendation on safety. This does not affect Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. CHC will be postponing all scheduled Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinics at this time.

Muscatine appointments for this week have now been switched to Moderna. If someone already signed up for Johnson & Johnson, they do not need to reserve an appointment again.

The following Muscatine Johnson & Johnson clinics have been changed to Moderna:

* Thursday, April 15, at The Salvation Army of Muscatine County.

* Friday, April 16, at UnityPoint Health Trinity Muscatine.
