Burroughs leads Comet cross country runners

Junior Ashton Burroughs finished in the top 25 in a nine-team meet held Tuesday, hosted by Midland High School.

Burroughs was the 21st runner to cross the finish line in the boys’ competition for the 5L course. He was clocked at 21:14 for the course, well behind the winner, Brady Griebel of Bellevue, who won in 16:34.

The girls varsity competition was won by Tipton, paced by first place runner Kallie Wallick, finishing in 22:23.

In the boys junior varsity run, Comet Mason Benedict claimed the 21st position with a time of 34:12. The winning time was 20:22.

In the junor varsity girls competition, West Liberty’s Karla Velasco was sixth in 34:5, well behind the lead who finished in 25:30.

In junior high competition, Seth Axsom claimed seventh place overall with a 12:19 finish, about two minutes behind the winner from Tipton while Brady Laughlin also finished well in 27th place with a 15:09 run.

For the junior high girls team from West Liberty, Desiree Romero finished ninth in 16:24, about four minutes behind the first place runner from Cal-Wheat.

West Liberty competed with Tipton Bellevue, Northest, Easton Valley and Midland in the nine team meet that also included North Cedar, Calamus-Wheaton and Prince of Peace.
