Bloodmobile coming to town on Monday, Dec. 7

The regular Mississippi Valley Blood Centrer Bloodmobile will be taking a different shape when it comes to town on Monday, Dec. 7 as part of it's regular West Liberty area collection.

According to organizer Priscilla Hessig of the sponsoring Chapter AH, P.E.O. of West Liberty, the blood takers will not be able to utilize the First Church United community room facilities like usual and will instead bring the mobile blood center unit to the parking lot of the church.

Set Holiday distribution

The West Liberty Voluntary Action Council continues to prepare for the annual community Christmas distribution to be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18-19.

VAC officials say applications must be made by Monday, Nov. 30 and are available at the West Liberty Community Schools, West Liberty City Hall, food pantry at First Church United, New York Dollar Store, Casey’s General Store in Nichols and the U.S. Post Office in Atalissa. Completed applications must be mailed or delivered to First Church United, 1100 North Calhoun, in West Liberty.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, procedures will be different this year. All food to be distributed will come from the local food pantry, not local food drives that have contributed in the past. Members of the Rotary Club of West Liberty will provide toilet paper.

The Aquarius Club will again host the toy Star Trees at MidwestOne Bank and the West Liberty State Bank. Local residents can choose a star with a child’s gender and age and donate toys for children age 12 and under. All toy donations must be received by Saturday, Dec. 13. The donations will be sorted and bagged by Aquarius members at First Church United on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Toys, food, and hygiene items will be distributed via a drive up or delivery appointment on Friday, Dec. 18, from 4:30-7 p.m., or Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9-11 a.m. at First Church United.
